Designed a corporate holding structure for one of South-East Asia’s largest energy conglomerates. The project recommended that the company corporatize several of its existing business units (Gas Processing, Gas Transportation & Distribution, Upstream Oil, Downstream Oil, and Petrochemicals) and create a holding structure with industry sector groups to oversee the numerous satellite subsidiaries in which it held varying degrees of equity.

Created a Supply/ Demand Organization structure for the I/T department of one of Europe’s largest gas companies. The project recommended a division between the providers of maintenance service for I/T applications and equipment (supply) and the users of information technology (demand). The major focus of the project was on how to create the coordinating mechanisms between both communities and ensure a cost-effective service. The recommended structure was heavily based on the use and management of outsourcers.

Redesigned the roles of the Mexican Energy Ministry to allow it to better focus on its emerging function as a regulator of the power and gas (transportation & distribution) markets that had recently been opened-up to competition. The project focused on helping the Ministry define how the country should regulate these recently liberalized markets: Was the role of regulation to control margins? prices? service? safety? competitive behavior? strategic development of the infrastructure? fuel diversity? or something else? And would regulation go across all parts of the value chain? These issues needed to be carefully considered, as they would have a major impact on the development and effectiveness of the industry. After having looked at the diverse experiences of similar markets around the world and having analyzed the various aspects that were particular to the Mexican economy, the project developed a set of recommendations that served as the framework for the transformation of the ministry and the creation of various regulatory agencies.

Rationalized the organization structure of the I/T department of a major Latin American E&P company. The project redesigned the business processes and reduced the workload drivers resulting in a significant reduction in the headcount requirements.

Restructured the Sales and Marketing organization of a major Latin American State-owned downstream oil company. The project recommended that the existing geographic structure be changed to one focusing on product categories since there were significant economies of scale and there was little overlap of clients that bought more than one product. As a result overhead costs were significantly reduced and sales effectiveness increased by 25%

Redefined the manufacturing footprint of a major North American chemical manufacturer. The project managed to eliminate several high cost manufacturing facilities and consolidate volumes at larger more efficient plants. The restructuring resulted in lower processing costs per metric ton and a 20% reduction in headcount which led to annual savings valued at over $ 40 MM.

Created an Independent Port Authority and developed the privatization program for 41 ports in Mexico. The project divided the responsibilities of promoting the commercial attractiveness of the ports from the responsibility of ensuring safe operations. The project has been fully implemented.
